Vartan Abgaryan, Cliff’s Edge
The most important thing I learned from my mom about cooking is the emotion in it. She made us the same chicken soup for years. It never tasted the same. Sometimes it was just perfect. Other times it was just okay. It took me a long time to realize this, but when she was in the mood to cook — that’s when it was great. I cook with my heart because of my mother.

Patio season is upon us, and one of L.A.’s most beloved and loveliest patios is the one belonging to Cliff’s Edge, a space that’s more like a magical tree house hideaway than a traditional restaurant patio. Cliff’s Edge: The uber-romantic restaurant in Silver Lake will be serving a five-course tasting menu. The first seating, starting at 5:30, is $55 per person, and the second seating, starting at 7 p.m., is $65 per person. Biancaniello used to work with Chef Vartan Abgaryan back at the Hollywood Roosevelt and the two have been itching to collaborate ever since. What can we look forward to? “I’m excited to up the bar program there and start using wild foraged ingredients that I am getting from the Santa Monica mountains,” he says. “I have infused a case of Hendricks gin with stinging nettles and am looking forward to creating cocktails all month with them.”
